Died:
- Robert Ross Potter, age 82, of Elizabeth, Illinois, died Monday, February 13, 2006 at home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 16, 2006 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hanover, Illinois. Burial will be in the Elizabeth Cemetery, Elizabeth, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2006 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth. A Memorial fund has been established in Robert's name. Robert was born January 30, 1924 in Hanover Township, the son of Ross and Ione (Ehredt) Potter. He attended the Black Country School and graduated from Hanover High School, Class of 1941. On June 26, 1950, Robert married Shirley Vandervate at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hanover, Illinois. Robert served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Robert farmed near Rodden, rural Elizabeth. He was a 30-year Trustee for Elizabeth Township, a former member and past President of the Elizabeth School Board and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Church Council. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking; most of all Robert loved and enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren.
Robert will be deeply missed by his wife, Shirley; two sons, Dennis (Phyllis) Potter of Stockton, IL and Duane (Terri) Potter of Elizabeth; six grandchildren, Robert (Becky) Potter of Pearl City, IL; Jennifer (Jason) Barklow of Pearl City, Troy Potter of Woodridge, IL, and Niel, Blake and Cory Potter, all of Elizabeth; three great grandchildren, Randy Potter, Brent and Burgundy Barklow; and two sisters, Arletta (Gene) Maeder of Galena, IL and Alberta Mercer of Massbach, IL.
Robert was preceded in death by both parents and a brother in-law, Keith Mercer.
