- She was the daughter of Harvey and Goldie (Nash)Beckner. She married first Martin Merrill Mersch and second Roy L. Dewey, who pre-deceased her in 2001 and his cremains are buried with her. She was survived by 4 children, 11 grandchildren, and 2 great granchildren.

HAYS -- Velma L. Dewey, 55, Hays, died Sunday, April 2, 2006.
Mrs. Dewey was born Velma L. Beckner on March 5, 1951, in Goodland. She was a housekeeper for area motels.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, in 2001.
Survivors include three sons, Terry Mersch of Minneapolis, David Mersch, address unknown and Danny Mersch of Bennington; a daughter, Donna Cain of Salina; three brothers, Stanley Beckner of Salina, David Beckner of Kanarado and Jerry Beckner of Bakersfield, Calif.; two sisters, Virginia Balentine of Wynona and Carleda Davis of Arizona; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Friday, in Brewster Cemetery.
