      Donald Dean Bowles was born on September 21, 1936 in Mitchell County, the son of Arthur and Ruth Larson Bowles. He died suddenly on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 78 years, 7 months, and 9 days. Donald grew up in the Mitchell County and attended school before graduating from high school. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1960 before returning to Glen Elder, where he and his family lived for many years. On June 10, 1967, he was united in marriage with Caroline Fisher, and three sons were born to this union: Arthur, Charles, and Duane. They were privileged to spend more than 45 years of marriage together when she died in September, 2012. Donald worked for the elevator and at Bob?s before retiring and starting up his own scrap iron business as well as selling Christmas trees. In his free time, Donald loved to fish and garden, and work on his tractors. He also enjoyed his word puzzles and old television shows. In addition to his wife, Caroline, he was preceded in death by his parents, and five brothers, Vernon, Leonard, Melvin, Harry, and Bill. Don is survived by his sons, Arthur, Charles, and Duane; two brothers, Richard and Bob; and a host of friends, relatives, nieces, and nephews.
      Funeral services will be at 10 AM Tuesday, May 5 at the Glen Elder Christian Church. Visitation will be from 6-7:30 PM Monday at the Church. Memorials may be given to the Family Expense Fund in care of the Central National Bank, Glen Elder.
