- Obit: Jackson County, Kentucky: Martha Jane (Brockman) Kerby
Mrs. Martha Kerby passed away in a Brighton Colorado Hospital on August 20, 1973. Funeral services were held in the Strasburg Community Presbyterian Church on Thursday ; August 23 with Rev. Arnold J. Blomquist officiating. Burial was in Mount View Cemetery in Bennett.
Mrs. Martha Jane Kerby was born September 8, 1885 in Grand Lick, Kentucky, the seventh of eleven children of Mr. Ambrose and Mrs. Kaziah Brockman. In this place of her birth she grew to maturity and on March 23, 1907 she was united in marriage with Charles Franklin Kerby in Sand Gap, Ky.
With her husband, Mrs. Kerby came to Colorado in 1909 to settle on a homestead north of Bennett, Colorado. Here they maintained their home together for 43 years working diligently and living frugally to surmount the many hardships of pioneering in the settling of this community. Mrs. Kerby and her husband were dedicated and faithful Christians being charter members of the Wolf Creek Community Presbyterian Church and remained constructively active and faithful in that fellowship while the lived on this homestead place. Mr. Kerby was an Elder in the church and always close by his side was Martha, faithful and devoted in the life and fellowship of the church.
Following their retirement from the farm in 1952, Mrs. Kerby and her husband built a home in Strasburg where they were highly esteemed for their lives of faith and hope and love in active participation in the Strasburg Church for the rest of their lives.
The Kerbys celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in March 1969. Mrs. Kerby was preceded in death by her husband on August 29, 1969. Surviving in her immediate family are: one brother - Mr. Noah Brockman, Dayton, Ohio, many nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends.
