Jerry D. Forkner, Mount Ayr
Mount Ayr - Jerry Dean Forkner, 60, of Mount Ayr died Feb. 24, 1998, at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Feb 27 at the Murray Cemetery with the Rev. David Symm officiating. The Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 103 N.E. Mills Street, Leon is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Forkner was born Feb. 18, 1938, in Greene County to David Edgar and Nora Adalada (Nicholas) Forkner. He lived most of his life with his parents. In 1979 he began attending the Ringgold County Challenge Center in Mount Ayr. In 1987 he moved to the Ringgold County Group Home in Mount Ayr. He was baptized in 1972 at the First Lutheran Church in Leon and attended the Kutheran Church in Mount Ayr. He participated in the activity program at Innovative Industries in Mount Ayr. In September 1997 he moved to the Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr.
Survivors include his mother, Nora Forkner Arnold of the Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr; and a sister, Helen Womochil of Tucson, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his father, David Forkner; two brothers, Duane and Dale Forkner; and stepfather, Vernon Arnold.
Jerry Dean Forkner
Jerry Dean Forkner of Mount Ayr, Iowa, son of David Edgar and Nora Adalada (Nicholas) Forkner, was born February 18, 1938 in Greene County, Iowa and died February 24, 1998 at Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Aur, Iowa at the age of 60 years.
Jerry lived much of his life in Leon, Iowa with his parents. In 1979 he began riding the bus every day from Leon to the Ringgold County Challenge Center in Mount Ayr. Jerry participated in the training program there.
In 1987 Jerry moved into the newly-opened Ringgold County Group Home in Mount Ayr. His mother Nora moved to Mount Ayr a short while later to be near her son. Jerry loved his ten years at the group home, and the staff and his friends there were like family to him.
Jerry was baptized into the First Lutheran Church in Leon in 1972. He attended the Lutheran Church in Mount Ayr, and the group home residents took turns attending other area churches together, too.
Jerry was a friendly man who liked children, liked to laugh and liked people to get along with each other. His mother called him a "mighty loving son."
Jerry spent many happy hours using his "Etch-a-Sketch." He participated in the activity program at Innovative Industries in Mount Ayr.
In Septenber 1997 Jerry moved into Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr. He enjoyed watching the bitds in their aviary. His mother Nora had moved into Clearview in May, 1997, and it was special to Jerry to have her right there.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, David Forkner; brothers, Duane and Dale Forkner, and step-father Vernon Arnold.
He is survived by his mother Nora Forkner Arnold of Mount Ayr; sister Helen Womochil of Tucson, AZ; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb 27, 1998 at Murray Cemetery in Murray, IA with Rev. David Symm officiating. Services were conducted by the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home of Leon.
