Subject Dear Dwight,
I have recently been in touch with another researcher, Loree Davis. She says that
Minerva Hastings and Thomas Morris were divorced ca 1866/7 in DeWitt, Clinton Co,
IA, but I have yet to confirm that.
"There is a transcription of an interview that was done with Thomas Morris in which
he says "I married Minerva McCum at Sublet, Lee County, Illinois. I left her about
1866 or 1867. She procured a divorce at DeWitt Iowa, I think Clinton County. I had
personal knowledge of the proceedings. I put in an appearance. The divorce was granted...
I next married Alvira Scott at Lucerne, Benton County, Iowa. I can't fix a date but
I think it was about 1877. I had to procure a license so it is of record." "
Per FamilySearch, he married Alvira [nee CAREY] SCOTT 02/05 Nov 1869 Vinton, Benton
Co, IA, so his memory may be off on other things.
I am assuming this text came from his C W pension records that she has a copy of.
Thomas is her GGGrandfather by his second wife. He d 17 May 1913 and is buried in
Rochester Cem., Topeka, Shawnee Co, KS, verified by FindAGrave, and she sent me a
photo of his stone.
Placing Minerva in IA at that time was a great surprise to me and of course stirs
up even more questions. What a life she had.
I hope this finds you and your family well.
Sincerely,
Kathy
