  Email from Alice Horner: Description: I have Luella Mae Smith's family information on my Rootsweb.com tree, "The Downing, Bickelhaupt, And Preston Families of Carroll County, Illinois." Right now I have her name as Suellen, but I'm changing that and planning to upload new information onto this tree later today. I'm fairly certain her name began as Luellen. Her parents were Oscar and Adelia (Roberts) Smith. They lived in the area of Mount Carroll Township, Carroll County, Illinois known as Center Hill; it is along what is now Highway 52 just east of the Center Hill Church and Cemetery. The house is still there; I can't remember who owns it. Oscar, Adelia, and some of their other children are buried in that cemetery. The Carroll County Birth Certificates Index, on the cyberdriveillinois website, has Luellen Smith's date of birth as May 1, 1913, not 1912. I'm not a direct relative. My mother grew up on a farm just east of the Smith's. I have a lot of this information, including tombstone photos for Center Hill Cemetery, on the Genealogy Trails website, http://www.genealogytrails.com/ill/carroll.
