My Emil Albert Schulte (married Louisa/Louise Wilhelmina (Ehredt)) is the youngest son (nine siblings)of Friedrich Carl/Karl/Charles and Ida Henriette (Hamann) Schulte and was born in the Schulte family home in the Township of Colby, Clark County, Wisconsin. Adam Rath) was the eldest brother of my (maternal-paternal) great-grandmother [Magdalena "Lena" M. Haring (née Rath)]. They came from a rather large family in Washington Township, Carroll County, Illinois. Father: Johannes "John" Rath, Jr. 1st Wife: Katharina Barbara Rath (née Schmidt) 1. C. Adam Rath 2. Heinrich "Henry" Rath 3. Gottlob Rath 4. Albert Frederick Rath 5. Rosina / Rosena "Rosie" Kathlene Wurster (née Rath) 6. Magdalena "Lena" M. Haring (née Rath) 7. John W. Rath ( remarried after 1st wife passed away ) 2nd Wife: Katharina "Kate" Rath (née Meyers) 8. Emilie C. Wurster (née Rath) 9. Caroline "Carrie" Phillipine Groezinger (née Rath) 10. Charles J. Rath 11. Sarah G. Rath 12. Emma Lister (née Rath) 13. Agnes A. Reibel (née Rath) 14. George J. Rath 15. Lewis H. Rath 16. Lillian "Lillie" Dorthea Barbara Messmer (née Rath) The only photos I have of this family at this time (other than tombstones) are of my great-grandmother [Magdalena "Lena" M. Haring (née Rath)] and unfortunately the quality is not that good -- I was given a photocopy of three old photographs -- I also have many birth dates, dates of death, cemetery information, marriage dates, relatives, etc. If you are interested, just let me know what information you would like. I just started researching our family tree two years ago, so I'm still rather new at this. My mother's maiden name is 'Haring' and we're actually having the 'Haring' family reunion tomorrow (Sept. 18th). I found out that her sister, my aunt, goes to the 'Rath' family reunion each year. I believe they have it in Mt. Carroll, Illinois and I think they just held it last month. I live in Lena, Illinois which is about 15 miles from the area where the Rath family lived. McAlpin (I2554) My father Hugh Bain Mcalpin was the youngest of the boys. There was a period of time when I was very young, in the early 1960?s, when Uncle Norman used to visit on Sundays. He and Dad would often have a jam session. I adored both my father and Uncle Norman. both of them had good senses of humour, and were kind to children, altho Uncle Norman had his limits, lol. Sadly, my wowser mother put a stop to these visits. Along with everyone else. Uncle Norman was at the time, not allowed to see his kids, as I was told. When he got sick, and was in Fairfield, I wasn?t allowed to go and see him before he passed away. It was very sad. I remember a part of his funeral. But, and you don?t have to believe this, most wouldn?t. I saw him about three weeks after his death. He didn?t speak, just smiled at me. And it was comforting at the time. I only have a couple of photos. One of my dad, and one of Uncle Norman in the backyard of his brothers place at Edithvale. He lived in a bungalow there, and tended vegetables, as can be seen in the pic. He worked, so I was told, at the Lucas Factory in Dandenong, and was the source of beaut green glass tombola (large) type marbles. Raw product for the windscreens and head and taillights of Holdens, etc. So Uncle Normans son has passed also, I am sorry to hear that. I never met Normans kids. It was a shame, but we became isolated from both sides of family over time. In the end, Dad was the last of the boys, as it would be, and missed his family too much. McAlpin (I2554) As far as I know, the musical streak, or ear runs thru the family, and either you got it, or you ain?t. Uncle Bob played the violin, until he lost an arm at the sawmill the boys ran at Gembrook. As mentioned previously, Uncle Norman played the guitar, the banjo, and the saxophone and probably could fudge it on the clarinet as well.. Mainly guitar and banjo. As for Uncle Ron, don?t remember, and Alan died in 1946, or thereabouts. Musically, there was an pedal organ owned by Normans grandmother that got passed down thru the girls. Great aunt Helen? And Normans sister wrote ?flowery? poetry. I listened to a recitation once. Politely. As one did. I did meet a great aunt, Great Uncle Roberts widow at Seymour, at her house on Station Street called Banavie, as far as I remember. In the 1960?s. Dad was an older father, so to meet one of his aunts was in retrospect amazing. He was 49 when I arrived, and 52 when my brother was born. So one grows up between two generations. Anyway, sorry to ramble, runs in the family, hoho. Cheers, Janm As far as I know, up until 1923, Norman grew up at Tooradin. The Mcalpin boys also ran a chaff cutter down there, hired out, along with their labour, around the district for a time. McAlpin (I2554) Have gone and visited Uncle Norman at Springvale. And his mother, my grandmother, Anne Bain, who is in a numbered section on the left of the main gate when you drive in. Should I be there for any reason, I shall do so again. The one I can?t find is my grandfather John McAlpin. I know he died in Dandenong Private hospital in 1923. | 570 | Extra Info on Smith family: RUTH (SMITH) GROHARING , 86, of Davenport, formerly of Thomson, died Wednesday (June 2, 1993), in Mercy Hospital, Davenport. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Law-Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Boyd Ellefon of York Community Church officiating. Burial will be in Lower York Cemetery. Mrs. Groharing was born April 14, 1907 in Mt. Carroll to Oscar and Adelia Roberts Smith. She married Vernon Groharing, Jan. 22, 1927. He died Jan. 7, 1987. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crafts, crocheting and rug braiding. Survivors include a son, Herbert of Davenport; five grandchildren and 6 great grandchildre; a sister, Mrs. Suella Ehredt of Thomson. She was preceded by two sister.
