Jacob Albert Schierholz was born February 27, 1851, in Norderstapel, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, the son of Peter Jacob Schierholz and Catharina Frahm. He emigrated from Germany on February 27, 1869. After arriving in America, he made his way to Boone County, Iowa, where he purchased 40 acres of land in Yell Township. He married Frances Harriet McKune on September 20, 1880. Their children were: Emma L., Catharine Elizabeth, Peter Hezekiah, Jacob Edward, Frances Minerva, Harriet A., Albert Harrison, Lurena E., Mabel Ellen, Wilhelm George, and Louie Cecil. He was considered by his peers to be an industrious and energetic farmer who finally owned 140 acres of land in Yell Township and was well-liked in his community. When he died May 22, 1940, in Boone, Iowa, of a stroke, at the home of his son, Albert, he was one of the oldest pioneers in the county, and had been a resident of the United States for 72 years.

Frances (daughter of Edward McKune and Minerva Maria Bacon Hastings) was born on 17 Oct 1860 in Sublette, Lee County, Illinois; died on 08 Jan 1923 in Yell, Boone County, Iowa; was buried in Glenwood Cemetery, Ogden, Boone County, Iowa. When Frances Harriet McKune was born on October 17, 1860, in Sublette, Illinois, her father, Edward McKune, was 28, and her mother, Minerva Maria Hastings, was 21. Her father, who was a Union soldier, died October 8, 1862, less than two years later, at the Battle of Perryville, Kentucky, in the American Civil War. Frances married Jacob Schierholz on September 20, 1880, in Ogden, Iowa. Their children were: Emma L., Catharine Elizabeth, Peter Hezekiah, Jacob Edward, Frances Minerva, Harriet A., Albert Harrison, Lurena E., Mabel Ellen, Wilhelm George, and Louie Cecil. She died of carcinoma of the liver on January 8, 1923, in Ogden, Iowa, at the age of 62.

Edward was in Company E 75th Illinois Infantry. He was a Private from Sublette, Illinois. Date of Muster Sep 2, 1862, he was Killed at Perryville, Ky. Oct 8, 1862.

Edward McKune is a direct descendant of John Howland who came to America on the Mayflower.

When Edward McKune was born on August 15, 1832, in Harmony, Pennsylvania, his father, Hezekiah, was 30 and his mother, Elizabeth, was 20. He married Minerva Maria Hastings on November 2, 1856, in Dixon, Illinois. They had two children during their marriage, Emily and Frances. He died at the age of 30 as a Union soldier in the American Civil War on October 8, 1862, at the Battle of Perryville, Kentucky.
