    Junior 'Smitty' C. Smith, age 72, died Tuesday, August 2, 1994 at Castle Manor in Hot Springs.
    Memorial Services were held Friday, August 5 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Partor Don Torala officiating. Inturment will take place at a later date in the Fairview Cemetery, at Oral.
    He was born May 8, 1922 to Clifford W. and Spraye (Porter) Smith in Colby, Kansas. He grew up in Brewster, Kansas and graduated from there in 1940. From September of 1940 to the Spring of 1941, he was in the CCC at Camp Custer in Custer, SD. From 1941 to 1942, he worked in his uncle's store until enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He was in the Marine Corps from September 1942 to October 1945. He served in the infantry in the South Pacific from December 1943 to August 1945.
    On September 8, 1945 he married Rosalie M. Thompson in Goodland, Kansas. They lived in Brewster, Kansas for 2 years and then moved to a nearby farm. In 1956, the family moved to Oral where they farmed on the Angostura Irrigation Project. He farmed and ranched on those units until his first stroke in March of 1987.
    He moved to Hot Springs in May of 1988 and then to Castle Manor in April of 1991.
    He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge of Hot Springs, VFW Post# 1640, Historical Auto Club of the Black Hills, Rapid City, and the St. Thomas Masonic Lodge in Colby, Kansas.
    Grateful for having had the privilege of sharing his life are his wife - Rosalie Smith, Hot Springs, SD, son - Frederick P. & Sue Smith, Oral, SD, daughter- Lynda Sue & Robert Stannard, Littleton, Colo., grandson- Patrick & Christina Smith, Chadron, Neb., granddaughters-Shauna & Mick Hoglund, Dell Rapids, SD and Stacy Lee Smith, Oral, SD, brother - Freddie Smith, Ft. Collins, Colo., sister-Bette Lee Olinger, Northglenn, Colo., two half-brothers and 4 half-sisters, all from Colorado.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother; sister Barbara Lee Moreland and half-brother, Bob.
    In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to St. John's Lutheran Church.

    The Sage and Smith Chapel announces that services for 86 year old Fredrick McKinley Thompson, who died Thursday at Hot Springs, S. D., will be held Tuesday at the chapel at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Jim Johnsen of the Brewster Lutheran Church officiating.
    Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.
    Friends may pay their respects at the Sage and Smith Chapel from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m., Monday and before the services Tuesday.
    Mr. Thompson, a former Brewster resident, is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Rosalie M. Smith of Oral, S. D.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a sister, Idonia Wright, Brewster; and a brother, Alex Thompson, Denver.
    He was born in Mercer County, Mo., on Nov. 28, 1894. He married Lydia Isernhagen on Dec. 5, 1924 and she died Feb. 3, 1959. The couple farmed in the Brewster area for many years.
    He was a WWI veteran and a 60 year member of the American Legion.

    Former Brewster resident dies at 86
    Former Brewster resident, Fred Thompson, died Thursday in Veteran's Hospital, Rapid City, S.D., at the age of 86. Mr. Thompson was a brother of Idonia Wright of Brewster.
    Mr. Thompson had moved to Rapid City two years ago to be near his daughter, Rosa Lee Smith.
    Born in Mercer County, Mo., Nov. 28, 1894, Mr. Thompson moved to a farm north of Brewster and farmed there for many years. He was married to Lydia Isernhagen Dec. 5, 1924. She died Feb. 3, 1959.
    Mr. Thompson served in the United States Army during World War I and was a 60 year member of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Lutheran Church in Brewster.
    Mr. Thompson is survived by his daughter, Rosa Lee Smith; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his sister, Idonia Wright; and a brother, Alex Thompson, Denver.
    Services will be at the Sage and Smith Chapel, Tuesday, at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Tim Johnsen of the Brewster Lutheran Church will officiate.
    Friends may pay their respects at Sage and Smith Chapel Monday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and before services Tuesday.
    Burial will be in the Goodland Cemetery.

    Mrs. Fred Thompson Dies In Colby Hospital
    Lydia Doris Thompson, 54, wife of Fred Thompson of Brewster, Kans., passed away on Tuesday evening in the Colby hospital, where she had been a patient for several weeks.
    Born at Agra, Kans. in October 29, 1904, she was the duaghter of Earnest Isernhagen and Anna Marie Miller. She attended the Agra schools, and intermittingly attended Fort Hays State Teacher's College at Hays, Kans., to gain credit hours while teaching school. She taught one year at Agra. and one year at the Muldrow school.
    The Isernhagen family moved to Brewster in 1924, and on December 5, 1924, Lydia Isernhagen was united in marriage to Fred Thompson at Colby, Kans. The couple established their home at Brewster after their marriage and have lived there since.
    A member of the Lutheran Church at Brewster, Mrs. Thompson was active in Church work, taught a Sunday school class and took part in the missionary society. She also was a member of the Semper Fidelis Study Club and took great interest in the American Legion Auxiliary, of which she was a past president.
    Mrs. Thompson's survivors are her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Rosalie Smith of Oral, South Dak., two grandchildren. Frederick and Lynda Sue Smith; a sister, Mrs. Martha Ryan of Brewster; four brothers, Walter, Louis, Alvin and Ray Isernhagen, all of Goodland, Kans.
    Funeral services will be held on Friday morning at 10:00 o'clock (MST) in the Lutheran Church at Goodland with the Rev. E.J. Beckmann officiating.
    Interment will be in the Goodland cemetery with the Lester Sage Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
    Pall bearers are Ray Craige, Glenn Root, Alvin Helin, I.N. Brown, Warren Reid, Fred Carpenter, Jim Lehman, Ellis Rainsey and Wayne Deeds.

    Elmer Thompson's birth certificate says William was born in Illinois, 1860 Census says Missouri. Mercer County, Missouri is where a lot of this family was born.

    Died at 9:00 AM.

    William Sheldon Thompson was born April 28, 1860, in Mercer county, Missouri, and departed this life at Brewster, Feb. 17, 1946, age 85 years, 10 months and 17 days.
    He was united in marriage to Nancy Ann Cox in 1882. She preceded him in death Feb. 3, 1937. To this union six sons and three daughters were born. One son, William Esma, passed on in August, 1924.
    Mr. Thompson united with the Baptist church in early life. On coming to Kansas he united with the Methodist church at Prairie Gem in the neighborhood where the family was reared.
    He leaves to mourn his passing his sons, Burton, Charley and Fred of Brewster; Ivan and Alex of Edson; his daughters, Mrs. Bessie Bear and Idonia Wright of Brewster, and Mrs. Addie McAdams of Laird, Nebr.; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Beckner, Brewster; one half-brother, Elmer Thompson of Portis; two half-sisters, Mrs. Mary Graham and Mrs. Idonia Thompson of the Dalles Ore.; 26 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
    Funeral services were held from the Brewster Methodist church, Conducted by Rev. J. E. Gruver, with a large attendance of relatives and friends. He was laid to rest by the side of his wife in the Brewster cemetery.

    William married Nancy Ann Cox on 31 Aug 1882 in Mercer County, Missouri. Nancy (daughter of Minister John Willis Burton Cox and Mary Jane Rockhold) was born on 05 Jan 1859 in Mercer County, Missouri; died on 03 Feb 1937 in Rawlins County, Kansas; was buried on 04 Feb 1937 in Brewster Cemetery, Brewster, Thomas County, Kansas.     Nancy Ann Cox was born Jan. 5, 1859 in Mercer County Mo., and departed this life Feb. 3, 1937, at the age of 78 years and 28 days.
    She spent her girlhood in the community in which she was born and was converted at the age of 17 and became a member of the Fairhaven Baptist Church.
    On Aug. 31, 1882, she was united in marriage to W. S. Thompson who mourns her loss. To this union were born six boys and three girls: Burton Thompson of Brewster; Charlie Thompson of the home place; Mrs. Bessie Bear of the home community; Mrs. Addie McAdams of Laird, Nebr.; Ivan C. Thompson of Edson, Kansas; Fred Thompson of Brewster; Mrs. Idonia Tracy of the home community; and Alec Thompson of Edson, Kansas. Willie Thompson preceded his mother in death having passed away in 1924. There are 25 grandchildren and one great grandchild who survive.
    A kindly spirited wife and mother has passed on. Her going is great loss but while here among her fellow beings and caring for her family she was a blessing to all. She knew her Lord and let Him lead her into the valley of the shadow of death - but no fear possessed her.
    The funeral service was held in the M. E. Church at Brewster and conducted by the Rev. Fred W. Martin assisted by the Rev. Simpson, pastor of the church.
