Span Of Life Of William Walter Bear
William Walter Bear, son of George and Mary Bear, was born on December 18, 1890, north of Brewster, Kans.; and departed this life on July 18, 1958 at the age of 67 years, 7 months.
He was united in marriage to Bessie M. Thompson on October 12, 1910. To this union four children were born; Lorna Eicher, Brewster; Lloyd Bear, Brewster, George Bear, Edson; and Violet Miller, Brewster. His father and mother, three sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Bessie of the home; the two sons and two daughters; one sister, Mrs. Awalt of Paradise, Calif.; one brother, Charley Bear of Colby; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter, Dely Kay; and many relatives, friends, and loved ones.
Mr. Bear received much pleasure out of his grandchildren, and the grandchildren loved him. Mr. Bear and his family lived north of Brewster for 41 years, then moved to Brewster in the fall of 1947.
Will was always a good neighbor and a friend to all. He was always ready to help anyone in need of help.
Funeral services were held in the Brewster Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m., July 21, 1958, with the Rev. Howard Crandall officiating. Interment was in the Brewster Cemetery.

William married Bessie Mae Thompson on 12 Oct 1910. Bessie (daughter of William Sheldon Thompson and Nancy Ann Cox) was born on 14 Jan 1889 in Mercer County, Missouri; died on 28 Feb 1963 in Colby, Thomas County, Kansas; was buried on 03 Mar 1963 in Brewster Cemetery, Brewster, Thomas County, Kansas. Lorna married Daniel Jacob Eicher on 31 Aug 1940 in Hoxie, Kansas. Daniel (son of Oscar Eicher and Nannie ?) was born on 05 Jun 1917 in Brewster, Kansas; died on 06 Jun 1974 in Colorado Springs, Colorado; was buried on 10 Jun 1974 in Goodland, Kansas. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Lloyd married Lorraine Ressie Wears on 12 Aug 1950. Lorraine (daughter of James L Wears and Bessie Eulalia Mayfield) was born on 17 Sep 1920 in Adair, Oklahoma; died on 12 Aug 2005 in Colby, Thomas County, Kansas; was buried on 16 Aug 2005 in Brewster Cemetery, Brewster, Thomas County, Kansas. Obit for George S. Bear:
George Sheldon Bear, 83,Goodland, a retired county employee,died Tuesday,Sept. 26, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Center in Goodland. He had lived there for three and a half years.
He was born Feb. 20, 1917, in Thomas County, the son of Bessie(Thompson) and William Bear.
He attended Garden Plains School, which was north of Brewster. As a young boy, he liked horses, football, baseball and feeding cattle.
He graduated in 1936 from Brewster High School.
After graduation, he went to California for a short time to work. He returned to Brewster to farm.
He and Vivian Elaine McCall were married Sept. 23, 1939, in Russell Springs. They lived on a farm north of Brewster.
He farmed until 1969, when the couple moved to Goodland. He worked at the Great Western Sugar Beet Factory for a short time. Then from 1973 to 1982, he worked for the Sherman County Highway Department.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He taught his grandchildren how to play checkers and pool.
He enjoyed visiting with friends, playing cards, bowling, fishing, camping, taking drives to the country and going on trips to get ice cream.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Koons Chapel in Goodland with Pastor Jim Cress officiating. Burial will follow in the Brewster Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today and before the service Friday at the chapel.
Survivors include a son, Kermit L.Bear, Goodland; two daughters, Roberta S. Rehor, Goodland, and Cinda L. Speakman, Grand Junction, Colo.; a sister, Violet Miller, Colby; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1985; a son, Gary S. Bear, in 1996; his parents; a sister, Lorna Eicher; and a brother, Lloyd Bear.
Memorials may be given to the George S. Bear Memorial Fund to be designated later and left at Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland, Kan. 67735 or First National Bank, 202E. 11th, Goodland.

George married Vivian Elaine McCall on 23 Sep 1939 in Russell Springs, Logan County, Kansas. Vivian (daughter of Leroy McCall and Belva N ?) was born on 22 Mar 1921 in Thomas County, Kansas; died in Dec 1985 in Thomas County, Kansas; was buried in Brewster Cemetery, Brewster, Thomas County, Kansas.
