    Elizabeth purchased land in Jackson County, address of the land was Hoyt, Kansas, 5 miles north 3 1/2 miles west of Hoyt, Ks. 2 miles west of the old Point Pleasant School Dist. 13. According to Rose Harper (granddaughter of Josephine Pooler), Rufus, Thaddeous Owens (Elizabeth's brother?), Pillip Ransier (Elizabeth and James Ransier's son. are buried east of the row of trees east of the house. The house is no longer there. Graves unmarked.
    Elizabeth married Rufus who was twenty years older. When he died she married James Ransier who was also about twenty years older. After he died she married John G. Bell who was twenty years older. On an average she was married to each man about 15 years.
    According to the 1900 federal census she was living with her daughter Josephine Alice Ransier Pooler and her husband Benjamin F. Pooler. Jackson Co., Douglas Township, Kansas.

    From the Holton Signal, Feb. 10, 1904 Death of an old Settler
    Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Bell died at home in Hoyt on Thursday, February 4th, aged 73 years, 1 month, and 22 days.
    The deceased came to Kansas in 1855 with her husband Benjamin Rice, and settled in Douglass township on the place where she died and where some years later Mr. Rice died. They were among the first settlers in this part of Kansas, and were highly respected, useful citizens. In later years the deceased married again. She was the mother of nine children, five of whom have preceded her to the land beyond the skies. Those now living are B.R. Rice of Dillon, Colo., Malissa A. Rose, of Elmont, Kansas; Martha J. Collins of Yampa Colorado, and Mrs. Josie Pooler of Hoyt.
    The funeral was held on Saturday and the remains buried at the Point Pleasant cemetery.

    From the Tribune Holton, Jackson County, Kansas Feb. 19, 1904
    Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Bell departed this life, Tuesday, February 4th, aged 78 years 1 month and 22 days. The deceased came to Kansas with her husband, Rufus Rice, in 1855 and settled in Douglas township., Mr Rice was one of our first pioneer preachers and was called to his reward some years ago. Mrs. Rice married again in later years. She leaves four children: Mrs. Rose of Elmont; Mrs. Martha J. Collins of Yampa, Colorado; B. F. Rice of Dillon, Colorado and Mrs. Josie Pooler of this place, all being present to see their mother laid to rest. The funeral was held on Saturday, at the Point Pleasant church conducted by Rev. Stewart, his text being, "From the Bread of Life," taken from the 6th Chapter of John, 35th verse. The--remains were laid to rest in the Steward cemetery to await the first resurrection, of which Grandma will have a part. As those who loved her stood by her bedside and watched her quietly pass away from this world of sin and suffering they thanked God that her suffering was over for they did not sorrow as those who have no hope.

    Some information on Death was October 8, 1879 in Morrell, Kansas. (Brown Co.) Is she buried there?
    In 1870 at the age of 18, she was married to David and had had Emma E. They lived next to her mother Elizabeth J. Ransier and stepfather James Ransier, sisters Melisa and Martha Jane. Benjamin Rice was living with a clergyman named Benjamin Lewis in Clinton, Douglas, Kns. Benjamin was 13. Her sister Nancy was 16 and married to William R. Zook, 24. They lived in Shirley, Cloud Co., Kansas (Solomon) Stephen was living in Nemaha Co. Leneca. Kn.
    Family Group Records Rice-Ransier has information concerning this family. Indicated there was some children who might have been adopted.

Mize in his life time: that David L. Mize was on or about July 9th, 1868, in the county of Jackson state of Kansas, married to Margaret Rice: that David L. Mize lived with his said wife Margaret from the date of their marriage, without separation or divorce, until the death of said Margaret Mize, on or about August 10, 1875; that said David L. was not remarried to any one from the date of the death of said Margaret Mize, until July 3rd, 1881 when he was married to Mary E. Babcock, in Jackson county, Kansas: that David L. Mize lived with his wife, Mary E. Mize, from the date of their Marriage, without separation or divorce, until the day of his death; that said David L. Mize died on or about the 24th day of March 1914, leaving his widow, Mary E. Mize, him surviving. I am 65 years of age, and my post office address is Atchison, Kansas, R. F. D. No. 2. And sworn to before me this 11 day of January 1915.

Jay of lawaful age, beign first duly sworn, on her oath deposes and says: I am am 65 years of age: I am a resident of Atchison county, state of Kansas; my post office address is Atchison, Kansas; I was well and personally acquainted with Margaret Mize (formerly Margaret Rice) during the last 11 years of her life; that said Margaret Mize died on or about the 10th day of August 1879, in the county of Brown, State of Kansas, leaving her husband, David L. Mize, her surviving: this of my personal knowledge. And further Affiant saith not. signed Emily C. Jay Subscribed and sworn to before me this 9th day of June.

Mize. of lawful age being first duly sworn, on her oath, deposes and says: I am 60 years of age, and am a resident of Brown County, Kansas; my post office address is Fairview; I was on the 18th day of January 1879, married to James P. Babcock in Shawnee County, Kansas; I lived with my husband, James P. Babcock, from the date of our marriage, with out separation or divorce, until the day of his death of said James P. Babcock, which was on or about May 11, 1879; that I was not intermarried with any one from the date of the death of said James P. Babcock, until July 3, 1881, when I was married to David L. Mize; that I lived with my husband David L. Mize, from the date of our marriage, without separation or divorce, until the day of the dath of said David L. Mize, which was on the 24rth day of March 1914. That said James P. Babcock never served in the military or naval service of the United States; that I was never married prior to my marriage to James P. Babcock, but am unable to furnish additional testimony on that point, for the reason that I do not know and with diligence have been unable to ascertain, the address or whereabouts of any persons who knew me prior to my marriage to James P. Babock. And further affiant saith not. signed Mary E. Mize
    Subscribed and sworn to before me this 4th day of January 1915.

State of Kansas, Shawnee County, SS: Mrs. Jennie Antrim of lawful age, being first duly sworn, on her oath deposes and says: I am 49 years of age, and a resident of Shawnee county, Kansas; my post office address is, N. Topeka R. R. 6; I am, and have been for the past all my years life, well and personally acquainted with Mary E. Mize, widow of David L. Mize; that Mary E. Mize was formerly the wife of James P. Babcock, having been married to him on or about January 18, 1879; that said James P. Babcock died on or about May 11, 1879, leaving his widow, Mary E. Babcock, him surviving; that said Mary E. Babcock was not remarried to any one from the date of the death of said James P. Babcock, until July 3, 1881, when she was married to David L. Mize; that Mary E. Mize lived with her husband, David L. Mize from the date of their marriage, without separation or divorce, until the day of the death of said David L. Mize.

    According to the 1870 Kansas censes he was 13 years old and living with a clergyman, Benjamin Lewis, and family in Lecompton, Douglas County Kns. Post office Clinton. Possible adoption.
    He married Mabel Carle in Colorado. He had been a school teacher in Kansas and moved to Colorado in 1879. He was a faro bank dealer, stage driver for Nott's Stage, miner, hauled ore from Peru Creek to Keystone railhead. He also had a general store in Montezuma and a saloon in Dillon.
