John Adam Ehredt was the oldest of the 10 children of Martin and Elizabeth Ehredt. He was born on the family farm in Guilford Township. The Family Farm was on the Ridge road between Elizabeth and Scales Mound. Coonie Bahr bought this farm when Martin retired to Galena.

John married Barbara Hesselbacher who lived on the farm across ridge raod with her family. John bought the (Ehredt) farm bordering on ridge road and the bottom road. It was also in Guilford Township, with Elizabeth, Illinois as the mailing address. They had 7 children.

John was a big man. He farmed, but did Blacksmithing on the side. In 1900 they moved to Elizabeth, Illinois, where he had a Blacksmithing Shop first on Route 20 and then later on Catlin Street. He also built a large home on Catlin Street. He was a good carpenter. He built a large barn for his brother Martin, on his farm near Derinda Center, Illinois. His sons, Joe and John worked with him in the Blacksmith Shop before they were married.

Funeral services for Martin Ehredt Senior who passed away at his home in Derinda Center, Jo Davies County Sunday January 2 after an illness of Diabetes and complications was held Wednesday afternoon Jan 5th At the family home there were German services at 10:00 and in the afternoon English services at the Lutheran Church at Derinda Center. Both services were largely attended. Rev. R. Reichen pastor of the Church was in charge. The casket was attended by Messrs(?) John Ploech, Roy Diehl, Frank Randecker, Fred Eberly, George Wurster, William Krug, Louis Randecker, Louis Heer(?). There were many beautiful floral offerings.

Born in Galena, Martin John Ehredt was the son of Martin and Elizabeth (Hutschel) Ehredt both deceased was born February 11, 1862 at Galena Illinois and died at the age of 64 years 10 months and 21 days. When young his parents moved to a farm in Guilford township. Mr. Ehredt was married about 44 years ago to Sophia Groezinger at Galena Ill. With his family he moved to Derinda Center and made his home there for the past 34 years. He was the father of 13 children, ten of whom with the wife survive. The couple also raised three foster children. Three of their children died in infancy. The children that survive are Theodore Ehredt of Dubuque Iowa. William Ehredt of Savanna, "Carrie" Mrs. Frank Haas of Mossback, "Annie" Mrs. William Grapes of Manchester Iowa, "Louisa" Mrs. Emil Shulte of Dubuque Iowa, Frank Ehredt of Round Lake Ill. "Bertha" Mrs. John Schnitzler of Mount Hope Ill. "Lizzie (Elizabeth)" Mrs. George Grinnel of Savanna, "Eva" Mrs. Roland Schroth of Savanna, Ill. David Daniel Ehredt was the 6th child of John and Barbara Ehredt. He was born on their farm and moved with them to Elizabeth, Illinois when he was 3 years old. He graduated from Elizabeth High School. Then worked 2 years in McQuillans Grocery Store before enlisting in the U.S. Army on 01 Apr 1918. He served with the 82nd Field Artillery at Ft. Bliss, Texas.

He married Ina Catherine Ravenscraft on 01 Feb 1919. They had 3 children. They farmed his mother’s farm for 22 years. Then moved to Hanover, Illinois where he worked as a foreman at the Savanna Ordnance Depot for 20 years. He bought the farm when his mother died, later selling. When he retired he was the Hanover Township Assessor for 7 years.

He was an active member of the Masons. First becoming a member in Elizabeth, then transferring to Hanover. He joined the Consistory in Freeport, Illinois and the Shrine 32nd Degree at Rockford, Illinois. He served as “Master” in Elizabeth and in Hanover.

The bride is a popular young lady of Derinda, being a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Ehredt and is a sister of Night *****in William Ehredt of this city. She is a young lady who commands the esteem and respect of a large circle of friends in the vicinity where she resides and is popular in the social circles of the young people there.
Mr. Schroth is a young man of excellent character and is well thought of in this city. Mr. and Mrs. Schroth will reside on a farm in Derinda Center.

THOMSON - Martin M. Ehredt of Thomson, an area farmer and an employee of Kraft Foods, Stockton, until retiring in 1968, died Sunday at Jane Lamb Hospital, Clinton, Iowa. He was a member of Savanna Moose Lodge.
Born Nov. 13, 1903, at Derinda Center, he was the son of Martin and Sophia (Groezinger) Ehredt. He married Luella Smith Oct. 11, 1931, at Mount Carroll. Surviving are his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Elizabeth) Duff and
Mrs. Carl (Etta) Carlson,; both of Thomson; a son, Martin of Barrow, Alaska; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Louisa Schultzy of Dubuque, Iowa; and a brother, Frank of Round Lake. A son and three grandchildren preceded him in death.

Elmer William Ehredt, 87, Elizabeth, died Tuesday at Galana Nursing Home.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday in Law-Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Blazing, Bock Evangelical Free Church, Bock, Minn., officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Freeport, Ill.
Pallbearers will be Dale, Mark, and Daryl Ehredt, Daniel and Dean Dittmar, Donald Schumacker and Robert Palmer.
Mr. Ehredt was born Feb. 23, 1900, in Gilford Township, to William and Emily Balbach Ehredt. He married Myrtle Beetly, Feb, 28, 1924, in Groton, S.D. She died Aug, 18, 1987.
He was a retired farmer.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Monica) Schumacker of Elizabeth, Mrs. William (Myrtle) Palmer of Clinton, and Mrs. Lyle (Charlotte) Dittmar of Galana; two sons, LeRoy of Pearl City, Ill., and Ward of Pittsfield, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Albert G Grinnall, age 80, of Savanna, Illinois, died Tuesday, October 15, 2002 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.
Memorial services will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, October 19, 2002 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Pastor Robert Schubert will officiate. Inurment will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Albert's name.
Albert was born on Monday, December 5, 1921 in Savanna, Illinois to George and Elizabeth (Ehredt) Grinnall. He attended Savanna High School. He married Gladys Dauphin on June 13, 1942.
Albert farmed and worked at Burlington Northern Railroad for 42 years, retiring in 1983.
Albert served in the Army in Field Artillery during numerous campaigns in Europe where he received the Bronze Star.
Albert was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Savanna Moose, Railroad Retirees, past Board member of the Mt. Carroll Lions Club.

Elizabeth ?Betty? Jane Morris was a lady who enjoyed the little things in life, especially thoughtful relationships with friends and family. At the age of 90, Betty passed into eternity Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at HCR Manor Care, Davenport, Iowa. A visitation will be held Thursday from 4-7pm at Law Jones Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Friday at 10:30am at Law Jones Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Savanna Township Cemetery.
Betty was born May 29, 1923, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Erehdt) Grinnall, in Savanna. She attended Savanna High School and graduated with the Class of 1941. She married Donald Morris on November 13, 1943 in Savanna. Donald passed away February 3, 1975.
Betty worked for Eaton Corp. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, and was an active volunteer at the Savanna Food Pantry and Thrift Shop. Betty enjoyed cooking, sewing, crafting and playing cards with friends and family.
Betty will be dearly missed by her daughter, Betty Mae Hurt of Bettendorf, Iowa; three sons, Donald (Carol) Morris of Truckee, California, James Morris of River Grove, Illinois, and Dick (Stacey) Morris of Peotone, Illinois; 7 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grand Children. Virginia's early childhood was spent in Derinda Center, Illinois and then in Thomson, Illinois.
Virginia graduated from York Community High School Graduating Class of 1940 in Thomson Illinois

In 1941 in a dual wedding Virginia married Charles John Tripp alongside good friends Russell and Francis Lego.
Virginia and Chuck (as he was called) had 5 children from this marriage, Charles Russell, Sheldon David, LaVerle Eugene, Cheryl Kay, Micheal Ray

In 1963 Virginia married Dwight Lee Thompson.
Along with this marriage Virginia gained three step children, Connie Jean, Robert Lee and Timothy Lynn. She had as much love for her step children as she did for her own.
Virginia and Dwight also had one child together, Dwight Lee Jr.

Virginia was a Licensed Psychiatric technician at Colorado General Hospital for more than 25 years. She retired to spend more time with her husband Dwight who was diagnosed with cancer. They spent many years together before his passing in 1991.

Virginia was a very caring and giving person, she was always glad to see you when you came to visit and you always had a place to stay if you needed one.
