Hazel Wilma Harrell, 72, died Saturday, August 25, 1979, at the Russell City Hopital, Russell, Kansas. She had been in the hospital since Wednesday.
She was born December 11, 1906 to Walter Lee and Maude (Bishop) Dodson in Rooks County, Kansas, on the Webster Ranch, between Zurich and Webster. When she was one year old she and her family moved to Simila, Colorado, in a covered wagon to homestead. She attended her first year of school at Simila.
Her family then moved to Lincoln County, Kansas, by covered wagon and lived there for six years. At that time Hazel's dad traded their Colorado Homestead for land northeast of Paradise. While they were living there, Hazel graduated from high school in Paradise and worked at the grocery store for several years.
Hazel was appointed Postmaster of the Paradise, Kansas, Post Office in 1933. She retired from the Post Office in 1967. The Paradise community gave her a 34-year retirement celebration as Postmaster.
Hazel and Clarence Everett "Dick" Harrell were married May 5, 1934, in Osborne, Kansas. To this union was born one son, Millard Lee. Dick died April 14, 1969, at Paradise, Kansas.
Hazel moved to Russell in 1972 and was able to live in Elkhart, Kansas a few months at a time, from 1975 to 1978, to be with her grandchildren (Kelby and Gwendolyn Harrell) more. She was able to enjoy this past July 4th week with her family in Elkhart.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dick and one brother, Earl.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Millard and Onnalee Harrell, Elkhart; two grandchildren, Kelby and Gwendolyn Harrell, Elkhart; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard and Neva Lee Dodson and Walter and Elsie Dodson, Russell, Kansas; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Alice and Fred Whitman, Helen and Harold Burger, Russell, Kansas and Elma and Jack Lowder, Wichita, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews.

- Memorial Services were 28 Aug 1979 at the Paradise United Methodist Church, Paradise, Kansas.
