1010 | Ivan C. Thompson Long-time Sherman County resident Ivan C. Thompson died last Wednesday at St. Thomas Hospital, at the age of 86. Mr. Thompson was born Sept. 20 1890 in Mercer County, MO., to W.S. and Nancy Thompson. In 1899 he traveled to Thomas County in a covered wagon with his parents and eight brothers and sisters. After staying a year, the Thompson family moved back to Missouri, again traveling in a covered wagon. In 1903 they came back to kansas and homesteaded north of Brewster. In 1918, Mr. Thompson married Julia Frances Smith in Goodland. She preceded him in death in 1969. Mr. Thompson and his wife farmed in Sherman and Thomas Counties for 74 years. He had been living with hid daughter, Helen Owens, Edson, for several years. In addition to his daughter, Mr. Thompson is also survived by a son, Harold, of Olathe, two brothers, Fred of Brewster and Elic of Westminster, Colo., and one sister, Idona Wright, Brewster. Survivors also include 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. On son, Kenneth, two sisters and three brothers preceded him in death. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Fr. Merlin Kieffer and Fr. Bob Reif officiated. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary Chapel in Fort Morgan and Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Vian Creek Baptist Church in Vian, Okla. Interment will follow in the Barnoski Cemetery north of Vian. A complete obituary will printed in Wednesday's Fort Morgan Times. The Heer & Jolliffe Mortuary in Fort Morgan is in charge of the local arrangements. Ft. He was an investment broker; he began working in Colorado Springs and was working for Bank One in Denver at the time of his death. Jay liked sports of all kinds; he played football in college; he especially enjoyed playing softball, and golfing with his friends; he was an avid OU fan. Survivors include his daughter, Dorinda Thompson of Post Falls, Idaho, his parents, Louis and Vivian Locust of Vian, OK and James Thompson of Denver, CO; 2 sisters, Shawnee & (Richard) Livers of Vian, OK, and Tammy & (Chris) Altig of Denver; 4 brothers, Scott & (Rhonda) Thompson of Vian, OK, J.R. & (Traci) Thompson of Broomfield, CO, Jess "Buck" & (Carmela) Locust of Vian, OK, and Sequoyah Locust of Lawrence, KS; his grandmother, Alma Weber of Brighton; his special friend Bonnie and his nieces and nephews, Marcus and Desirae Millwood, Shanda, Brooke, Jamie and Austin Thompson, Jess, Christopher and Ethan Locust, Richard and Riana Livers and Cody, Shane and Ryan Jordan. Forkner, Mount Ayr Mount Ayr - Jerry Dean Forkner, 60, of Mount Ayr died Feb. 24, 1998, at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Feb 27 at the Murray Cemetery with the Rev. David Symm officiating. The Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 103 N.E. Mills Street, Leon is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Forkner was born Feb. 18, 1938, in Greene County to David Edgar and Nora Adalada (Nicholas) Forkner. He lived most of his life with his parents. In 1979 he began attending the Ringgold County Challenge Center in Mount Ayr. In 1987 he moved to the Ringgold County Group Home in Mount Ayr. He was baptized in 1972 at the First Lutheran Church in Leon and attended the Kutheran Church in Mount Ayr. He participated in the activity program at Innovative Industries in Mount Ayr. In September 1997 he moved to the Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr. Survivors include his mother, Nora Forkner Arnold of the Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr; and a sister, Helen Womochil of Tucson, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his father, David Forkner; two brothers, Duane and Dale Forkner; and stepfather, Vernon Arnold. Jerry Dean Forkner Jerry Dean Forkner of Mount Ayr, Iowa, son of David Edgar and Nora Adalada (Nicholas) Forkner, was born February 18, 1938 in Greene County, Iowa and died February 24, 1998 at Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Aur, Iowa at the age of 60 years. Jerry lived much of his life in Leon, Iowa with his parents. In 1979 he began riding the bus every day from Leon to the Ringgold County Challenge Center in Mount Ayr. Jerry participated in the training program there. In 1987 Jerry moved into the newly-opened Ringgold County Group Home in Mount Ayr. His mother Nora moved to Mount Ayr a short while later to be near her son. Jerry loved his ten years at the group home, and the staff and his friends there were like family to him. Jerry was baptized into the First Lutheran Church in Leon in 1972. He attended the Lutheran Church in Mount Ayr, and the group home residents took turns attending other area churches together, too. Jerry was a friendly man who liked children, liked to laugh and liked people to get along with each other. His mother called him a "mighty loving son." Jerry spent many happy hours using his "Etch-a-Sketch." He participated in the activity program at Innovative Industries in Mount Ayr. In Septenber 1997 Jerry moved into Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr. He enjoyed watching the bitds in their aviary. His mother Nora had moved into Clearview in May, 1997, and it was special to Jerry to have her right there. Jerry was preceded in death by his father, David Forkner; brothers, Duane and Dale Forkner, and step-father Vernon Arnold. He is survived by his mother Nora Forkner Arnold of Mount Ayr; sister Helen Womochil of Tucson, AZ; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb 27, 1998 at Murray Cemetery in Murray, IA with Rev. David Symm officiating. 1047 | Joachim Fiestedt, a native of Germany who came to the United States as a young man and settled in New York State. He rented a farm there and remained for about five years, but decided that better opportunites for success presented themselves in the west, and accordingly came to Outagamie county, Wisconsin, purchasing a farm in Center township, upon which the only improvement that had been made was a log cabin and sheds. Here he resided until his retirement from active life in 1900, when he removed to Seymour, having become one of the well-known, prosperous agriculturists of his section.
