    Elmer Ehredt
    Elmer William Ehredt, 87, Elizabeth, died Tuesday at Galana Nursing Home.
    The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday in Law-Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Blazing, Bock Evangelical Free Church, Bock, Minn., officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Freeport, Ill.
    Pallbearers will be Dale, Mark, and Daryl Ehredt, Daniel and Dean Dittmar, Donald Schumacker and Robert Palmer.
    Mr. Ehredt was born Feb. 23, 1900, in Gilford Township, to William and Emily Balbach Ehredt. He married Myrtle Beetly, Feb, 28, 1924, in Groton, S.D. She died Aug, 18, 1987.
    He was a retired farmer.
    Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Monica) Schumacker of Elizabeth, Mrs. William (Myrtle) Palmer of Clinton, and Mrs. Lyle (Charlotte) Dittmar of Galana; two sons, LeRoy of Pearl City, Ill., and Ward of Pittsfield, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

    William Martin Ehredt was born in 1867, son of Martin Ehredt and Elizabeth Hulschal-Ehredt. In 1894, William married Amelia Mable "Emily" Balbac, and they had five children: Arthur Benjamin Ehredt... Elmer William Ehredt... Orion Leroy Ehredt... Iona Mae Ehredt-Potter... and Wilbur George Ehredt. In 1902, William was appointed United States Postmaster for Derinda Center, Illinois.

    In 1894, Emily married William Martin Ehredt, and they had five children: Arthur Benjamin Ehredt... Elmer William Ehredt... Orion Leroy Ehredt... Iona Mae Ehredt-Potter... and Wilbur George Ehredt.
    Emily husband, William, was appointed United States Postmaster for Derinda Center, Illinois.

  1. 8.  Martin EhredtMartin Ehredt was born on 01 Apr 1832 in Weisweil, Baden, Germany (son of Martin Ehret and Elisabetha Kilius); died on 28 Oct 1900 in Galena, Jo Davies County, Illinois; was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena, Jo Davies County, Illinois.

    Notes:

    According to records, Martin Ehret arrived in New Orleans, Louisiana in January of 1853. He changed the spelling of his name from Ehret to Ehredt. His Brother Johann Ehret came to America with him. They were separated and no record of Johann remains except that it was known that he took a Wagon Train west.

    Martin and Elizabeth and her 2 brothers came to the United States on the same boat and arrived in New Orleans, Louisiana in Jan 1853.

    Martin Married Elizabeth in St. Louis, Illinois. They moved up river to Galena, Illinois where they lived for 8 years.

    Martin was a skilled Coppersmith and worked 8 years for C. J. Claussen Copper Shop of Galena. Then he bought a farm in Guilford Township where he prospered. He retired to Hill Street, Galena, Illinois where he lived for almost 4 years. He was 68 years, 6 months old when he died.

    Notes from Violet Williams state that Martin was born at Richfeldt on Rhine in Germany.

    Martin Ehredt Dead
    Expires at his home in Galena Sunday afternoon, about 1:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon the spirit of Martin Ehredt, a Pioneer resident of this county, took its flight after its tenement of clay had been racked with illness for many months. In his death Galena loses one of its most highly valued citizens, and there are many who will experience deep sorrow and regret at his departure from this life.
    The deceendent was a native of Baden, Germany where he was born 68 yrs & 6 months ago. He came to America when yet a young man and stopped at St. Louis, Missouri, for a time, where he was marriedto the wife who survives to morn his demise. Soon after his marriage he came with his wife to Galena and for eight years was employed in a large cooper shop, then being conducted by C.J. Claussen. Being of a frugal disposition he saved money and upon leaving the Cooper shop, purchased a farm in Guilford township where he prospered and from which he retired to a residence in Galena about 4 years ago. Besides his wife he is survived by 9 children - six sons and three daughters,all of whom are married.
    His daughters Mrs. James Richards of Scalesmound, Mrs. George Crilley, Milwoukee Wis. Mrs. John Baur of Galena, the sons are John, Martin, Fred, William, Frank, Henry.
    The funeral services to the memory of the late Martin Ehredt were held on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the family resedence on Hill St, Rev John Klindworth(?) of St. Matthews Luthern Church officiating. The pastor delivered an impressive & instructive sermon which was lestened to by a large assemblage of friends of the deceased citizen.
    He was held in the highest respect by the entire community and his demise is a source of much regret to the many who knew him best. An honest, upright, godfearing husband, father and citizen had gone and the home he has vacated is the abode of deep sorrow.
    The floral tributes were abundant & very beautiful, at the conclusion of the solem rites at the family residence the remains were conveyed to Greenwood Cemetery where interment was made.
    The pall bearers were John Britting, Fred Balte, George Luberger, Philip Naey, Jacob Dlein and Henry Knoebler.

    Along with the Obit was this note: Anthony J. Denny, Recorder of deads, St. Louis, Missouri checked & was unable to locate marriage records for Martin Ehredt and elizabeth Holzschuh, Ledger 1850 thru 1870.

    Martin married Catharine Elizabeth Hulschal on 11 Apr 1856 in Galena, Illinois. Catharine (daughter of John Hutschel and ?) was born on 01 May 1837 in Baden, Germany; died on 10 May 1920 in Galena, Jo Davies County, Illinois ; was buried on 12 May 1920 in Greenwood Cemetery, Galena, Jo Davies County, Illinois .     For years I've had Elizabeth's name as Hutschel, Now I'm seeing more and more evidence that the spelling is Hulschal.
